This is a declaration for all of you who are still sleeping on “Yandhi,” Kanye West’s unreleased album. Again, the “man of God” succeeds to satisfy us. It all started in October 1st 2019, when Kanye released six tracks from “Yandhi,” including “Alien,” “We Got Love,” and “New Body” on iTunes, as 26-second ringtones (yes, you read that correctly), later revealed to be an accidental release.
Curiously, these tracks didn’t align with the track list of another upcoming album that Kim Kardashian West shared in Twitter back in August 2019, “Jesus is King”. After everyone went nuts, someone leaked the whole album on Spotify under the name “KANYE DROP YOUR ALBUM,” a revelation unsurprisingly radiating shockwaves all over. The album featured artists like Travis Scott, The-Dream, ASAP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Young Thug, and many more; We’re talking about the actual dream team.
Some would say the reaction that the leak brought was quite enough to make Kanye actually release the album, but why hasn’t he? After a lot of statements from Kanye and Kim West through social media about the unfinished songs and postponed release dates, Kanye finally released the album “Jesus is King” on streaming platforms on October 25th 2019, but until now “Yandhi” has yet to appear anywhere legally. The man himself has not declared anything regarding the cause of the cancellation (or the postponement? Let’s hope so), but we can see it clearly in the verses from basically every track of his newest album that he is no longer the “Yeezus” and “The Life of Pablo” Kanye.
Kanye stated in James Corden’s Airpool Karaoke that he now “works for God”. Quoting him in the segment on what propelled “Jesus is King”; “God’s always had a plan for me, and he’s always wanted to use me. But I think he wanted me to suffer more and wanted people to see my suffering and see my pain and put stigmas on me and have me go through all the human experiences. So now when I talk about how Jesus saved me, more people can relate to that experience.”
Who knows? Maybe the epiphany got to him right after he finished “Yandhi”, and somehow he decided not to release it. This can be seen in how “Jesus is King” has no explicit-labeled tracks at all, but profanity is still present in “Yandhi”. We can all applaud that Kanye West has found a ground to settle, but we genuinely think that we deserve the chance to access “Yandhi” legally. “Alien”, featuring Young Thug and Kid Cudi, would instantly take us back to the “Yeezus” era. “Last Name”, “All Dreams Real” and “Hurricane” are also a few of many tracks that caught our eye, and it is kind of a pity that the fans can’t legitimately appreciate this masterpiece.
Above all, here’s to the new Kanye, and to the many more masterpieces to come!
